Wondrous Red

Poppy petals of wondrous red
Bow down to kiss your head
Where you sleep for evermore
Far away from England’s shore
Alas it was not meant to be
You would come home to me
The call to arms you had to leave
I am proud and yet I mourn I grieve
For you will never come home but rest instead
Midst the poppy petals of wondrous red
