Waiting

How much of human life
Is lost in waiting,waiting
For bus or train or ‘plane
Waiting, always waiting

Waiting for that moment
To speak and let her know
How long you have been waiting
To say you love her so

Or waiting for a new sign
Of hope,when someone’s ill
Waiting for a break-through
A miracle new pill

Even in our dotage
Waiting rules our day
Sitting ‘round and waiting
For God to show the way

If only all that waiting
The anxiety and strife
Had somehow not been wasted
But used to fill our life

Too soon our time will run out
With others left debating
How much of human life
Is lost in waiting,waiting
