THOSE HAUNTING EYES

“Breaking News” that’s what the headlines said; the TV presenter regrets to announce another soldier has been shot in Afghanistan and is now dead. Before it sinks in and a conscious thought is formed they tell us that the next of kin have been informed.

By the next day a photograph and a name a young life cut short to the government’s shame, it was our politicians deception and lies that caused us to find ourselves looking into those haunting eyes. A funeral service which they televise but we find ourselves thinking back to those haunting eyes.

Every year we gather to remember the main focus on that 11th day in November but it’s a daily remembrance that goes on for some, their photo’s a constant reminder of the days to come and when we look into the night skies the stars remind us of all the souls lost and those sad haunting eyes.
