THE WAR CEMETERIES, BELGIUM

Row upon row
Impressive fields of white
Headstones and crosses
Required reading for all.
Take in the carved ages
A whole host of young men
Names from the age of conflict
Fallen men from all corners
Units of remembered victims
A Commonwealth of soldiers.
Meander and feel
The peace and the calm.
The buzz of the grass cutter
The only sound that disturbs
Seems fitting for each
After such a violent end.
Fallen in battle
Remembered in stone
