“Once A Soldier”

Our former selves appear mere shadows now
As “Light of Life” diminishes thru time
“To right all wrongs” we all didst once avow
Then circumstances caused to realign
By actively engaging with said foe
Twas thought that we may put an end to war
By showing them another way to go
Until confronted by “what others saw”
Now weary and despairing of mankind
Old comrades “hold the line” as etched in stone
Remembrance doth weigh heavy on one’s mind
“They gave their lives for ours” we oft’ bemoan
Tis left for younger men to carry fight
Tho whilst there’s hope, the Dove may yet take flight
