Named and Shamed

Anticipation of event draws near
As Alpine village comes alive at dawn
Yet still beneath the duvet, hiding fear
Did I reside as cowbells greet new morn
It came to pass that I was entered thus
“New rising star” of Gross Britannia team
In truth at best a novice with ‘B plus’
Now Nation does expect, or so would seem
O’er Fifty ‘K’ the distance to traverse
Replete with pack and small-bore rifle wrap
My skis pre-waxed yet nothing could be worse
As ‘Band of Brothers’ head for more mishap
Exhausted from exertions and from shame
When ‘mentioned in despatches’ by one’s name
