Love of the Common People

Whilst days of ‘Empire’ served to spread the word
A wealth of common people felt as one
In outrage, at how start of War occurred
When ‘Blighty’ and her allies faced the ‘Hun’
Twas stated aim to annexe and demand
As neighbour crushed weak neighbour and accrued
Diplomacy; chose not to understand
Then series of protracted claims ensued
Famed ‘Anzac’ troops sailed out; of own accord
From India and Africa they came
Dominions and dependents came onboard
To rout aggressors plan in ‘Freedom’s’ name
Tho’ tide was turned; so many paid the price
Such “Friends” in hour of need, do not think twice
