I SAW THE SUN RISE TODAY

I saw the sun rise today
And as I looked towards the sky
My thoughts turned to those men and boys
Their hearts so filled with pride

Marching off to serve their King
With a smile and a wave
They never knew what awaited them
But still they were so brave

The fear, the wet, the hunger, the cold
Bombarded by it all
So many of them would not grow old
So many of them would fall

The price they paid was far too high
For their families and for them
They gave us peace and freedom
Those courageous boys and men

So many of them never returned
A foreign land is where they lay
But I give thanks to all of them
Because I saw the sun rise today
