Boys Across The Sea

Every day the list will grow
with names so soon forgot
except for grieving families
the emptiness, the loss.
So proud in khaki and in blue
they fight for Queen ‘tis said
in countries far across the sea
our young lads blood is shed.
On foreign soil our fathers wept
and gave their lives too soon
another generation now
but still the wars go on.
Why do we look so far
across the shores to die
to change the lives of others?
I cannot ask but why.
This country needs another way
not conflict, strife or woe
I wish I had the answers
the questions seem to flow.
