Armistice Day

The sky is heavy and grey
Joining the sombre mourning
Of this 90th Armistice Day
Always so cold and dank
As if the very air of the dead
Stands with us for the silence
Sparking memories of loss
Bringing the past to life

Not just the ‘Glorious Dead’
Haunts my soul today
Living reminders of our wars
Fill our crowded streets
Unable to forget
The day the bullets started
and never ever ceased.
