A Different Path

Before too long held hopes may come to pass
When childhood dreams subdued, will have their way
Directions taken during life, alas
Ensuring loss of aim, at least delay
By taking stock of all achievements made
A sense of longing for a life yet known
Doth beckon from beyond, as if in trade
For one’s existence lived out as my own
In harking back at promised future tense
Could lead down lonely avenues unlit
Acceptance of dealt hand in what comes hence
May prove to be surprise; nay benefit
Though choices made by some appear unwise
Do not be blind to chance, keep open eyes
