Why us, Why us, the soldier asked
As onward the ammunition he passed
Because we’re here, because we’re here
Now do up that button and show no fear

Defend you now that red white and blue
For that’s all Victoria asked of you
Behind your meally bags and carts
Wipe your eyes and steady your hearts

And when your courage again you’ve found
Load your Martini with the government round
Hook,Hitch,Hayden,or whatever your name
You’re sure to add to the Regiments fame

For one day upon this land
Maybe a marble monument will stand
Erected as a nations grateful gift
To the defenders of Rourke’s Drift

For those of you who walk away
Will always be remembered for this day
And those who die in action bold
Your story is forever told
