TODAY

You’ll never face a no-mans-land
Like the one we crossed today
You’ll never breach a wire, my friend
Like the wire we breached today
You’ll never face the shot and shell
Nor the long slow walk to a living hell
Or hear the scream of Death’s Great Bell
Such as those we did today

Draw close by and listen well
We have a tale to tell
When the Devil sounds his hunting horn
You’ll face these things in a different form
When men of terror bring fire and storm
This will be your today

Remember us beneath white stones
Who gave what we could give
These soulless men must have no say
They should not have their evil way
Truth and Freedom must win the day
For this is our today
