THE RIVER DIVIDE

You are on the opposite bank of the river to where I am…
On your side you are where you have chosen to be …
I am where I have chosen to be…between us…the ‘River Divide’.

I do not wish to go to where you are…a dangerous and nasty place…
I am where I want to be on my side…where it is pleasant and safe…
Your side is dark and cold and dead…my side is bright and warm and vibrant.

On your side the sun never shines, the nights are as black as coal…
People are out to use you and to hurt you and to cast you aside…
And you are always sad and restless and in despair.

If you want what I have and to be free, unchain yourself and come over to me…
The bridge is down, there is only a boat…meet me in the middle…
And I will bring you to the place in which you will know the difference.

Where the sun shines, and where you will see the night stars…
Where people are warm and kind and helpful and loving…
And wherein you will be happy and settled and contented.

Yes! Meet me in the middle…in the middle of the river…
Choose to be with me…and I will take you to somewhere you wish to be…
Come, meet with me and I will show you a better place.
