The Panther’s Claw

Heart-rending news from Helmand comes
The sacrifice of yet more sons.
The Panther’s Claw is poised to strike
More British boys will die tonight.
Where The Taliban command the land
The blood of heroes stains the sand.
Towards the enemy brave soldiers go
The roll call of the dead will grow.
Who proved their worth with all they gave
Who earned our words of love and praise.
Around every corner there lay in wait
An enemy coiled up like a snake…
When victory is, at last, in sight
There will be ghosts within to fight.
On looking back, we’ll doubtless say
The cost was one too great to pay.
When a cause is just, good men must fight
Must stand, as one, for what is right…
