I’m waiting for inspiration
Pen and paper both new
Searching for words or a sentence
To write a poem or two
There is no flash or a drum roll
Or trumpet-loud fanfare
I search my mind’s dark corners
For ideas lurking there
I read the poems of others
To find ideas anew
Their words bring no inspiration
Just leave me feeling blue
My paper remains unblemished
No ink flows from my pen
I close my book and wait for
The words to flow again
