THE EMPTY STARE

Faces stare from my T.V.
Pleading staring straight at me
”Give me succour, give me peace
Will my anguish ever cease?”
Change the channel, try to hide
Away from desolation’s tide
”X-Factor” or ”cooking” fare
Still you see their empty stare
Boring right into your mind
Hoping that someday they’ll find
Salvation from their misery
A chance to live like you and me
You know that with a little care
And help, you’ll stop that empty stare
From future children on T.V.
Who soon could smile so joyously
We are so lucky in this land
To offer hope with helping hand
