Talking to God

If I called on God in supplication,
Would He want a detailed explanation?
Would He say “Hi stranger! Come on in”?
Or would He count my every sin?

If I stood outside His pearly portal,
Would He know my sins, venial and mortal?
Would He gaze on me benevolent?
Or mete out justice heaven-sent?

If I told Him of the good I’d done,
Would He overlook my “bit of fun”?
Would He see it as misguided play?
Or would He say, “Now you must pay”

If I whispered “God. I’m sorry now”
Would He stare at me with furrowed brow?
Would He say, “You’ve led a merry dance”?
Or would he give me; one more chance?
