Son of Lombardy

With brush filled wrap he ventured forth to Rome
From youth to man by simple strokes did take
His mark was made beneath the church’s dome
Of Cardinal whose faith he would forsake
Defying all authority through fame
He’d brandish blade with servants by his side
In swordplay took a life, yet not the blame
On Sovereign Island home didst thence abide
Producing works of art; became a Knight
Once more among elite, showed errant ways
Imprisoned once when temper did ignite
Escape was pre-arranged despite forays
A Papal pardon came to save his soul
Yet life was stilled, as painted in a bowl
