Silence on the battlefield

By 31st October 2010December 9th, 2019No Comments

Deep within the battlefield

When the guns ceased to roar

A lonely soldier stood in silence

And couldn’t take no more

His nerves were all shattered

His face was ashen white

No more strength to carry on

He had lost the will to fight

He fell down upon his knees

And looked up to the sky

Please help me I am frightened

I do not want to die

I have seen so many things

A young man shouldn’t see

I have these terrible dreams

One day it will happen to me

Then in the midst of battle

The lonely soldier fell

He was mortally wounded

Shrapnel from a shell

These were his last words spoken

I feel no pain or sorrow

As a soldier I did my best

For a world of peace tomorrow
