Rejection

By 6th February 2011December 9th, 2019No Comments

The knock at the door was not answered
Except by a startled black crow
Which flew off the roof of the cottage
As I waited alone in the snow

No light came out of the windows
No fire ablaze in the grate
I knocked once more on the door, but
I knew that I just had to wait

The flurries of snow seemed to gather
And swirl all around me once more
The wind was so biting and bitter
But still no-one came to the door

One final time was I tempted
To knock and swallow my pride
But I trudged away from the cottage
Rejected– and hurting inside
