Recovery

When once the heart bled tears of red, when your love was sadly lost
Should the pains sustained within, count sorely against the cost
If your head is full of memories of pain, once joyful now painful to bear
What room for love or tenderness, destroyed by the pain that is there?

If the soul is rent from a peaceful place, then sent to survive with torment
With all that has gone before in your mind, what can save what love you are sent?
Destroy first the illusions you have, a recovery is long and full of horror and pain
When the past is excised from within you, perhaps then you can love once again
