My Privilege (of your age)

A lady friend much more advanced in years
Who walked with God, in truth throughout her life
Hath still’d my heart; as if twere drowned in tears
Couldst no more pierce, than thrusting home with knife
No kinder soul wouldst e’er by chance to meet
In caring; didst reach out to all in need
Oft’ said with smile “Twud make her life complete”
If time and tide, just once hath dared concede
I’d hold her gaze and catch the twinkled light
Which danced within the blue depths of her eyes
In knowing; twas true love which held my sight
Disguised betwixt the lowing of sweet sighs
Content am I declaring in her name
The honour was all mine; tis such a shame
