Light a Candle

Light for me a candle as I go away
The lord has called, and so I go today
I must go, no longer stay to hold your hand
Through all the wondrous things that we had planned

As from tender eyes such tears of sad now fall
In distant chimes I hear the Masters quiet call
To late now to cry! Dear one just kneel and pray
Yet I shall be with you more from day to day

As years slip by, you will forgive ere awhile
Yet dream such happy dreams and then smile that smile
By grace of God you smile, than be ever sad
Nothing can destroy the wondrous life we had

If in the dark, a vestige of love I leave
Think always kind of that and please never grieve
For now I must go to that far distant land
God and I shall walk together hand in hand.
