LIBERTY

Build a house of brick and stone

Let it stand for all to see

A monument to you alone

To you alone and Liberty

Set a seed of English oak

Let it grow wild and free

Strong and stout to evoke

To evoke sweet Liberty

Free a bird, trapped in a cage

Free it for the world to see

Let the world be in a rage

In a rage for Liberty

A captive bear upon a leash

Dancing to a melody

Knows that it is out of reach

Out of reach of Liberty

Bird of the air, high on the wing

The sky its only boundary

Joy of freedom makes it sing

Sing for joyous Liberty

History past, makes it plain

Makes it plain for all to see

That despots, tyrants, will in vain

In vain imprison Liberty

Terence Maltby
