Ich Doff Mein Beret

Old Deutschland’s risen ‘Phoenix like’ from flames
The ‘Fatherland’ now family reborn
Estranged by others who didst lay their claims
Yet line of chalk doth show from one cloth shorn
Through conflict and through reparations sought
Such devastation proved to be long haul
Upon themselves such consequences wrought
In raising ramparts, didst construct a wall
Yet time doth heal all obstacles to life
With nation’s dreams embraced and from both sides
No more where dark ambitions once were rife
A helping hand for neighbours now abides
As Bundesbank provides ‘Euro Buffet’
Ein Britisher Soldaten ‘doffs’ Beret
