I wasn’t there

By 5th November 2011December 9th, 2019No Comments

I wasn’t there when the guns fell silent
On that cold November morn
I wasn’t there when the sanity returned
I wasn’t even born
I wasn’t there to see the carnage,
The broken and the dead
I wasn’t there when the fear went away
Taking the horror and the dread
I wasn’t there when the men came home
From war so far away
With tales of ultimate sacrifice
The price they had to pay
But I’m here today because of this
Because of the millions who died
So I’m here today with head held high
As I wear my poppy with pride
