I want to be a soldier

One Minute your in a classroom,
Thumb up bum and mind in neutral.
I want to be a Soldier!
Fight for my country like my Father.

Morning, the Giant spoke to me!
Interested in becoming one of the finest?
That’s right being a GUARDSMAN.
What’s one of them then?

Sign here go to fields far away,
See what it’s like away from home.
Enjoy the open areas and sights,
Take it all in and become one of us.

I don’t want to be a WELSH GUARD.
I don’t understand the lingo,
Can I be an ENGLISH GUARD?
But still look like you tall and stout.

Short and simple that’s how it began,
Took the Silver Shilling, swore the oath.
Caught a train away down to the South,
To be greeted at the gate to the GUARDS DEPOT.

One Year on, twelve months of graft,
I’m tall and stout,
Not an ENGLISH GUARD,
But a proud GRENADIER!
