How can the bird that is born for joy, sit in a cage and sing?

Come free this mind from bars and shade,
Allow my longed for serenade
Tis time to sing of love and joy,
With thoughts our feathered friends employ

Of sweet refrain I’ll chirp and trill,
To soar and dream at freedoms will,
To swoop and glide o’er hills and glen
Until such time we meet again

Should e’er thou feel for my sad plight,
E’en deign to plan escape to flight
Please know although I am so confined,
My spirits bowed yet not resigned
