HOME ON LEAVE

By the evening’s firelight when it just you and I
I look at you and I remember times gone by
When first we met on a warm summer’s eve
You were in the navy and home on leave

Who is the boy with the lovely eyes of green
I just wanted to move closer and lean
My lips close to your laughing face
And stay forever within your space

When we shared our first kiss
I knew the meaning of bliss
After you asked me to be your wife
To stay with you all of my life

We have been married now for 40 years
During which there’s been laughter and tears
I have no regrets of what might have been
To me you’re still the boy with the lovely eyes of green
