His Last Words

To see the spark within fill out the day
I hold his gaze, to give him strength to fight
To focus on, when all around turns grey
Lest he succumbs to darkness of the night
Hold fast to beat of my own heart (for thee)
Pray hear the rhythm drumming out hopes tune
“Pick up thy bed” and walk amongst (for me)
Your life’s yet known and call has come too soon
I hear the whispered words as you depart
Expressed with truth filled innocence of mind
Couldst e’er such weight by one so young impart
Wouldst surely reach where others hope to find
Hark to my plea, a promise once hath made
Enfold with love and grant eternal shade
