HILL 62. NINETY YEARS LATER. BELGIUM. AUGUST 2007

by | Sep 11, 2007 | Poetry | 0 comments

Silent woodland.
Still and bright.
The living visions
Evocative sights.
Five foot trenches
Remember to stoop!
The mind imagines
The frightening ‘Whoop’
As shells descend
Upon the troops
Of bloodied soldiers
The advancing groups.
Endless fire
The constant sounds.
Fear and danger
Death abounds
Some returning
Many dead
Unsung heroes
Fear and dread
How did they do it?
How could they strive?
We see the trenches!
How did they survive?

Let’s remember those still there.
