He Doesn’t Mean It

He’s shouting again
though it brings him more pain
Far more hurting to him than to me
I try hard not to cry though the tears in my eyes
Make it dreadfully hard to see.

I wish he could see what his screams do to me
As he lashes my ears with his tongue
For I can see clearly that he loves me dearly
And he knows I can’t help it – I’m young!

But it’s over at last the temper has passed;
He gathers me close and I’m glad
That his hurt inside has finally died
As I love him so much – he’s my Dad
