“Deployment”

Reverberating footsteps sync with
the crow-calls of an officer.
Silence matches the stillness
of my mind.
I am fighting for a lifetime
and the nation I left behind.
Ahead I see something different,
a welcomed change of tune.
Peace had come and entered
my unsuspecting platoon.
It entered like a ghost—
unseen but always felt
It worked immediately upon
my all excited chest.
I dropped my gun when
I heard peace’s beckoning call
and the resonating calm
that led me through withal.
My friends were not as willing
to accept the ways above men
but I wanted to aspire
for peace is divinity, I attest.
And I will give my lifetime
so my nation will leave war behind.
