Conquests of the Mind

Though you heard them speak of your
Being courageous, brave, and proud
You stood apart within the crowd…
Someone whistles on his way to work
Out where a thousand shadows lurk.
That gnawing agony in your leg
Seems heightened as you lie in bed.
The sun rises and another day begins
With all the trials just living brings.
Invincible of heart and mind
You feel within a tomb confined
With every inch of ground that’s won
The battle’s never truly done…
