Clouded Conscience

I have tried to clear my mind of actions and consequences
Several outcomes have failed to compensate
No matter how it all began, through trial and tribulation
Changing just one fragment of the day could have saved a thousand lifetimes.
Would that we could start again, tread a different path

Why does fate deal an unkind hand to a heart with good intent
Is there a flaw in our approach, to people of undeclared aspiration
Do we have the right to enforce our raison d’être
When history shows that a hoped for ending, has many alternatives
I try to justify my actions and hope that the consequences will be mine alone

My clouded conscience bears witness to the burden I carry still
