Birds demise

Why did they have to shoot me
I so enjoyed my avian life
Flying high above the battlefields
Away from care and strife
I perched and ate the bird seed
And sang my little song
Flew like an angel in the sky
I was happy all day long
I perched there in the treetops
Even the washing line too
Tried not to foul the laundry
Like other naughty birds do
Now someone’s gone and shot me
Bringing my life to an end
Which is sad because I spent my life
Trying to be everyone’s friend
But that’s the way the cookie crumbles
Enjoy life while you may
For as sure as the Sun rises tomorrow
They’ll be joining me one day
