I stepped outside the sky was all torn this sad old town just waiting to fall
It’s not the way we planned it to be
Like plastic soldiers left out on the wall shoulder to shoulder and waiting to fall

We flew the flag of red black and blue and built a tank from paper and glue
And went to war for something to do
Playing at soldiers we hid in the sand eagerly awaiting our next command

Standing in line just frozen in time
You’ve got to play the game, got mud on your face its your turn to hide..
We almost had it all you’ve got to believe
That forever we are heroes, you’ve got to believe

You played outside with your gang and me and ran home scared in time for your tea
It’s not the way that warfare should be
But then we weren’t soldiers our backs to the wall shoulder to shoulder and waiting to fall

Standing in line just frozen in time
You’ve got to play the game, got blood on your face its your turn to die..
We almost had it all you’ve got to believe
That forever we are heroes, you’ve got to believe

Bang bang you stand in line you gotta wait around for re supply

Bang bang they shot you down you gonna be leaving this old town

Bang bang too young to die you had no time to say good bye

Bang bang the battles won too many lost an only son
