Alone

Leave his chair by the fire
He’ll be back any day
I’ll be home by Christmas lass
That’s what he’d say
But Christmas has gone
Other boys have come home
Yet I sit by the fire oh so alone
Kiss the babies goodnight for me
There‘s a job I must do
Keep your chin up be brave lass
You know I’ll always love you
The years have gone by our children have grown
Your chair is still empty
And I remain all alone
