All That Training

All that training
Each sleepless night
Can’t prepare you
For the sight
Of comrades killed by IED
Blown apart in front of me

All that training
Nerves on edge
The urge to kill
How low to dredge
The mind of enemy unseen
Long since gone and left the scene

All that training
Now the fear
Try real hard
Get brain in gear
Shaking hard you look around
Checking the surrounding ground

All that training
Kicking in
Searching where they
Might have been
Disregard the bloody ground
And the silent eerie sound

All that training
Makes you do
All the things
It taught you to
Makes you think and even plan
How to survive Afghanistan
