“Ahoy Old Man”

The odds are stacked against in game of chance
Eroding on the wind as years pass by
Yet still they come in awe, still more in trance
A stepping stone to God if one dared try
Where once was part of whole, before was cleft
In forcing earth apart through sands of time
Now sentinel doth stand alone, bereft
As mythical in lore, as steeped in brine
For those intrepid souls in first ascent
‘The Challenge’ seemed to be beyond their ken
Throughout the years that passed dist e’er relent
Until a ‘Knight of Realm’ led team of men
Beneath the Cairn atop enshrined, ‘the list’
Of ‘Bravehearts’ cloaked forever in the mist
