A soldier’s tale

I walk across the dessert sand
A solitary soldier in a far off land
The burden of the heat and fear
Bring thoughts of thoughts of home and those so dear
A child approaches across the barren land
A shabby boy with outstretched hand
His hopes for life are shared with me
For a football shirt and an old TV
Of a peaceful land, a fruitful crop, and an end to a war that never stops
My burden feels much lighter now
A single boy who showed me how
A simple wish, a thought for home
We share together as we both roam
