A Quiet Weekend

A quiet week, a quiet weekend
So so good, its 33 degrees in the shade
Spring is coming, so is the Taliban
We are ready from the blade sharp front
To the caring rear

It’s my turn as Duty Officer
A quiet week we all hope for
Spring is coming, so is the Taliban
He strikes this week, and hard
We see it at the hospital

The phone rings and the message starts
The quiet week vanishes
Vanishes as quickly as the fug of the glass of wine
Spring has come, so has the Taliban
The family sit and wait.

Time is a healer
But this boy is too far gone to heal
He has fought his fight, so did the Taliban
Run his fair race
The family sit and wait

The phone rings and the message starts
By name, By Rank, By number,
Another one gone to meet his God
Spring is here the Taliban has struck
The next family sits and waits
